An international conference on “Stem Cells: Development & Management,” organized by Naresuan University on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the university, will be held from November 30th to December 2nd. The goal of this conference is to fill the prevailing gaps in the transformation of this science of hope to serve all in need. In Thailand, there are over 100 organizations, including universities dealing with cell biology and stem cell research which offer promising research related to cell science and stem cells. At Naresuan University, there are Centers of Excellence in many fields, including the Center of Excellence for Medical Biotechnology (CEMB) where an effective research team on development, regeneration, and stem cell biology takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the fundamental question of how a single cell ultimately produces a complex fully patterned adult organism, as well as the intimately related question of how adult structures regenerate. There are still many challenges in this vibrant research field, including ethical questions relating to raw materials and clinical trials which in turn affect the ability to transfer research results into stem cell approved therapies.
